The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has been awarded the prestigious Woman of the Future Award for the second consecutive year, recognizing its unwavering commitment to empowering women and fostering gender equality in the workplace.

The award was presented at the Empower Her Awards ceremony, organized by the Nation Media Group, where 44 organizations competed for the honor.

URA’s victory underscores its dedication to creating a work environment that promotes growth, leadership, and equal opportunities for women.

Breaking Barriers and Building Leaders

The journey to this achievement has been marked by challenges, including societal expectations, self-doubt, and the infamous “glass ceiling.”

However, URA has consistently broken the mold by investing in policies, structures, and programs that empower women to rise, thrive, and lead with confidence.

“This award is a testament to our commitment to gender equality and our belief in the potential of women to drive change,” said a URA spokesperson.

Empower Her Initiative

The Empower Her Initiative, now in its second edition, aligns with the theme of International Women’s Day 2025“Leading with Purpose: Women Driving Change for a Balanced Future.”

The initiative emphasizes that true leadership is about making a meaningful impact, not just occupying positions.

A highlight of the event was Robert Kabushenga’s powerful message to women: “If there is an empty seat at the table, claim it. If there’s a voice needed in the room, let it be yours.”

URA’s Commitment to Gender Equality

URA’s recognition with the Woman of the Future Award reflects its ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empower women to reach their full potential.

The organization has implemented various initiatives, including mentorship programs, leadership training, and policies that support work-life balance, ensuring women can thrive both professionally and personally.

What This Means for Uganda’s Workforce

URA’s achievement sets a benchmark for other organizations in Uganda, demonstrating that investing in women’s empowerment is not only the right thing to do but also a strategic move for sustainable growth.

By fostering an inclusive environment, URA is paving the way for a more balanced and equitable future.
