UPDF Mourns the Loss of Col. David Byaruhanga

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is mourning the loss of Colonel David Byaruhanga, the Commander of the 409 Brigade in Bondo, Arua District.

Col. Byaruhanga passed away at Nakasero Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for undisclosed injuries sustained while on duty.

Captain David Kamya, the 4th Infantry Division’s Public Information Officer, confirmed the news, stating, “Death has taken our own senior officer, Col. David Byaruhanga. May his soul rest in everlasting peace.”

A Career of Service and Sacrifice

Col. Byaruhanga was a decorated officer whose contributions to Uganda’s security and stability were widely recognized.

He played a pivotal role in implementing Presidential Executive Order No. 3, which aimed to curb the illegal charcoal trade in the Acholi sub-region.

Additionally, he was instrumental in pacifying Karamoja during operations against the Karacuna warriors, helping to restore peace and order in the region.

A Hero Remembered

The UPDF described Col. Byaruhanga as a hero whose dedication to duty and leadership left an indelible mark on the force. His death is a significant loss to the 4th Infantry Division and the entire UPDF fraternity.

“Col. Byaruhanga’s commitment to service and his efforts in maintaining peace and security will not be forgotten,” Captain Kamya added.
