Innovators in Mbarara City have unveiled SIBO (Simple & Instant Buying Online), a groundbreaking delivery app designed to tackle both commercial inefficiencies and social barriers.

As Uganda’s second-largest city, Mbarara has long lacked a robust digital marketplace—until now.

Developed by Sankara Magezi Byaruhanga and his team at Kreative Campus Innovation Village, SIBO is already making waves, with 173 downloads and 29 orders recorded within its first four days of launch.

Why Mbarara Needed SIBO

Mbarara, often dubbed “the Land of Milk & Honey,” is the economic powerhouse of Western Uganda.

With a population of 264,425 and a GDP of Shs 2.03 trillion ($540.1 million), the city is a hub of commerce and trade. Yet, businesses have struggled with limited customer reach and logistical hurdles.

“SIBO bridges this gap by offering vendors a digital storefront,” explains Byaruhanga. “It expands market reach, boosts sales, and ensures seamless order and delivery management.”

Tackling Social Stigma

SIBO isn’t just about commerce—it’s also addressing pressing social issues. The app’s anonymous ordering feature is a game-changer for young people seeking reproductive health products like condoms, pads, or PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis).

“Many fear stigma when buying these items in physical stores,” says Byaruhanga. “SIBO allows them to access essentials privately, promoting HIV prevention and better reproductive health.”

How SIBO Works

For consumers, SIBO offers unparalleled convenience. Users can order groceries, food, electronics, and pharmaceuticals with just a few taps.

For businesses, the app provides a platform to connect with thousands of potential customers, enhancing visibility and sales.

A Bright Future for Mbarara

With its dual focus on commerce and social impact, SIBO is poised to transform Mbarara’s landscape.

As the app gains traction, it’s not just bridging gaps in the business sector—it’s also fostering a more inclusive and health-conscious community.

“This is just the beginning,” says Byaruhanga. “We’re excited to see how SIBO will continue to drive change in Mbarara and beyond.”
