Police in Mukono have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a 16-year-old Senior Three student at Seeta High School.
Elishammah Ssesazi was found hanging in the school dormitory by his classmates in the early hours of the morning, sending shockwaves through the school community.
What Happened?
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident occurred around 3:00 AM.
“The deceased had attended evening classes until 10:00 PM and later retired to the dormitory with his classmates. At around 3:00 AM, one of his roommates discovered him hanging next to his bed and immediately informed the school administration, which alerted the police,” Owoyesigyire explained.
The body was removed and taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Rumors and Speculation
There have been unverified reports suggesting that the deceased, the son of a Kampala businessman, took his own life after his father refused to give him Shs2 million.
The reports claim that the student could not clearly explain what the money was for, leading his father to deny the request.
However, police have cautioned against jumping to conclusions.
“At this stage, the motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to gather more details surrounding the incident,” Owoyesigyire stated.
A Call for Calm and Patience
Authorities are urging students, parents, and the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
“We urge everyone to remain calm as the police conduct thorough investigations into this matter. More details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” Owoyesigyire added.
