Rugarama Hospital Installs New Digital X-Ray to Boost Diagnosis

Rugarama Hospital's new digital X-ray machine

In a major upgrade to healthcare delivery in southwestern Uganda, Rugarama Hospital in Kabale District has commissioned a cutting-edge digital X-ray machine worth over Shs100 million. This new technology is expected to drastically improve diagnostic speed and accuracy across the region.

Speaking at the commissioning, Dr. Kevin Akampuriira Muheru, the hospital’s medical superintendent, expressed enthusiasm about the machine’s life-changing potential.

“This digital X-ray system delivers sharper images in less time, reducing patient wait times and streamlining treatment decisions. It’s a game-changer for both patients and our medical team,” Dr. Muheru said.

The new equipment is designed to detect and support early treatment of a wide range of conditions, including fractures, chest infections, and abdominal complications.

The improved imaging quality will enable doctors to make faster, more accurate diagnoses, which is critical for patient outcomes.

Dr. Muheru also acknowledged the key role played by the German Missionary Medical Team (GMMT), which contributed over Shs80 million towards the machine and broader hospital development efforts.

Kabale District Health Officer, Dr. Gilbert Mateke, praised the hospital and the Diocese of Kigezi for consistently raising the bar in healthcare.

“This is a big win for diagnostic care in the region. The machine will significantly reduce waiting time and improve service quality,” he noted.

The commissioning ceremony was marked by a prayer service led by Rt. Rev. Gad Akanjuna, Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi. In his sermon, the Bishop urged hospital staff and Christians to serve with humility and compassion, reflecting the character of Christ.

“Jesus was humble and compassionate. Let us walk in His footsteps and serve one another with love,” Bishop Akanjuna said.

He also addressed societal concerns, warning against negative cultural influences such as substance abuse and inappropriate behavior, especially among the youth.

“Some young people sing gospel songs in bars. That contradiction should make us pause. We must lead by example,” he added.

The installation marks a significant milestone for Rugarama Hospital, one of the key faith-based medical institutions in the Kigezi sub-region. The new X-ray machine strengthens its mission to deliver accessible, timely, and high-quality care to the people of Kabale and neighboring districts.

With this technological advancement, Rugarama positions itself as a reliable center for modern diagnostics in southwestern Uganda, easing pressure on referral hospitals and enhancing patient trust in local care.
