Raxio Launches Uganda’s First Tier III Data Hub to Power Digital Future

NAMANVE, Uganda — A new era for Uganda’s digital economy has begun. Raxio Data Centre has launched the country’s first Tier III certified facility in Namanve, responding to the surging demand for secure, reliable, and scalable data storage.

This milestone, unveiled during the launch of the Uganda Data Centre Landscape Report, marks a strategic leap in the nation’s push for technological independence and digital resilience.

Caroline Kamaitha, General Manager at Raxio, emphasized that Uganda’s business landscape is rapidly embracing cloud services, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) increasingly embedded in daily operations.

From fraud detection in banks to system monitoring across industries, AI’s footprint is expanding — and it’s pushing data demands to unprecedented levels.

“As AI and cloud-based tools evolve, the demand for dependable data centers is no longer optional — it’s essential,” Kamaitha said.

But building a Tier III data center is no small feat. Such a facility requires a flawless ecosystem: uninterrupted electricity, industrial-grade cooling, and military-grade security.

Raxio ticks all those boxes — and more. It was designed to align with global standards while meeting Uganda’s unique local requirements.

One such requirement is data sovereignty. Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, sensitive citizen data must be stored within the country’s borders. Raxio’s infrastructure ensures this legal mandate is met — securely and transparently.

Raxio is more than just a data warehouse. It’s an enabler for innovation, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that lack the resources to build and maintain their own data centers.

Edwine Enabu, Raxio’s Sales Manager, noted that many existing local data facilities are geared towards basic, individual-level use.

“The capital investment needed for enterprise-grade storage is out of reach for most companies,” he said. “That’s where Raxio comes in — bridging the infrastructure gap.”

However, Uganda’s inconsistent electricity supply remains a key concern. For a Tier III center, power stability is non-negotiable.

Raxio has invested heavily in backup systems and grid partnerships to ensure uninterrupted service, regardless of national power fluctuations.

Beyond power, Raxio offers high-speed connectivity through multiple providers, precision cooling to preserve hardware lifespan, and 24/7 security for physical and cyber protection.

This isn’t just another tech facility — it’s the backbone of Uganda’s digital transformation. With more Ugandan businesses turning digital, Raxio’s presence promises to elevate everything from e-commerce and banking to public service digitization.

As the world becomes more data-dependent, Uganda now has a facility to match its ambitions.
