Comedy Store Uganda boss Alex Muhangi is taking legal action against singer Bebe Cool, accusing him of contract breach after a failed performance and unpaid debts.
Muhangi’s lawyer, Robert Rutaro of Elgon Advocates, made the announcement at City Hall Court on April 1st, 2025, during a hearing on the ongoing copyright infringement case filed by Bebe Cool against the comedian.
According to Rutaro, Bebe Cool was paid an advance of UGX 1 million via mobile money for a scheduled performance in February 2025. The balance of UGX 5 million was also paid in cash. However, Bebe Cool allegedly refused to perform, threw the money at Muhangi, and drove off.
“This caused significant financial losses to Muhangi. We are now suing Bebe Cool for damages,” Rutaro stated.
Additionally, Muhangi plans to sue over an unpaid UGX 30 million debt for his role in producing Bebe Cool’s music video for the hit song Wakaima.
The legal battle between the two escalated after Bebe Cool filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Muhangi, accusing him of profiting from unauthorized uploads of his performances on YouTube and other social media platforms.
Efforts to settle the matter out of court have failed. Rutaro revealed that mediation talks were planned in Kungu, Kyanja, but Bebe Cool and his legal team failed to attend.
With both sides digging in, the courtroom showdown is set to intensify. The case continues to unfold as Muhangi prepares to counter-sue.
