In a resounding show of unity, Muslim leaders from across Uganda have pledged their unwavering support to Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje and his Deputy, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa.
The endorsement follows their election by the Majlis Al-Ulama and subsequent approval by the Joint Session of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
At a gathering held at the UMSC headquarters in Kampala, District Kadhis and Regional Assistants to the Mufti expressed their gratitude for the leadership’s commitment to fostering cohesion and development within the Muslim community.
A Call for Unity and Progress
Addressing the assembly, Mufti Mubaje acknowledged the leaders’ support and urged them to remain steadfast in promoting unity.
“I appreciate all we have achieved together. Our collective efforts are crucial in strengthening the faith and administration of our community,” he said.
Mubaje also praised his long-time associate, Sheikh Waiswa, describing him as a dedicated and loyal leader.
“Sheikh Waiswa was one of my teachers in A-Level. Despite our roles, he has always been supportive in executing assignments,” he noted.
Key Projects Underway
The Mufti outlined several transformative projects spearheaded by the UMSC, including:
- A 29-unit apartment complex in Kampala: Nearing completion, this project aims to provide modern housing solutions.
- Classroom blocks at Insan International University: Enhancing educational infrastructure for Muslim students.
- A shopping mall on UMSC’s recovered land along the Kampala-Gayaza Highway: A strategic development to boost economic activity.
Over the next five years, the UMSC plans to establish regional administration headquarters across Uganda’s ten Muslim regions, further decentralizing its operations and improving service delivery.

Nationwide Tour for Resource Mobilization
Mufti Mubaje announced plans for a nationwide tour by the UMSC National Management Team. The tour aims to mobilize resources, address community challenges, and encourage contributions to fundraising efforts.
“We will tackle pressing issues in the districts on-site and ensure the community’s voice is heard,” he said.
A Leadership of Integrity
Sheikh Waiswa reassured the congregation that the leadership’s focus remains on service, not power.
“We have never been desperate for power. This transition was well-planned, and when the right time comes, we shall hand over,” he stated.
Muluubya Ssekyanzi, a key figure in the UMSC, reaffirmed that Mubaje and Waiswa were elected based on their exceptional performance both locally and internationally.
Voices of Support
Other prominent leaders, including Haji Muhammad Ali Aluma and Sheikh Imran Ssali, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective action in advancing the Muslim community’s interests.
With a clear vision and strong backing from Muslim leaders, Mufti Mubaje and Sheikh Waiswa are poised to lead the UMSC into a new era of growth and development.
Their focus on infrastructure, education, and community engagement promises to uplift the Muslim community and strengthen its role in Uganda’s broader socio-economic landscape.
