MTN Uganda has kicked off a sweeping, three-month nationwide network upgrade aimed at delivering faster, more reliable voice, data, and mobile money services.
The upgrade, which runs through July 2025, is set to redefine how millions of Ugandans experience digital connectivity.
Announcing the initiative, MTN Uganda’s CEO, Sylvia Mulinge, said the rollout is more than just a technical improvement—it’s a mission to empower Ugandans in every corner of the country.
“This upgrade is about transforming the daily digital experiences of millions. Whether it’s students attending online classes or small business owners processing mobile money, we want our customers to thrive on a more powerful, seamless network,” Mulinge said.
The upgrade is being rolled out in carefully planned phases, with a strong focus on both high-traffic areas and underserved regions.
The Greater Central region will receive the largest share of enhancements at 35%, followed by the West (19%), Southwest (15%), North (12%), East (9%), and Central (9%).
Most upgrade work is being scheduled during off-peak hours, especially late at night, to minimize disruption. Still, MTN is advising users to brace for temporary service interruptions during the process.
This initiative is part of MTN Uganda’s broader “Ambition 2025” strategy, which aims to position the company as a leading force in digital transformation across Africa.
Key services set to benefit include voice calls, high-speed data, mobile money transactions, and enterprise connectivity through MTN Business.
“Our goal is to build a future-ready network that supports the dreams of every Ugandan,” said Mackinnon Kabarole, Acting Chief Marketing Officer. “We are investing in technology that will drive businesses, support families, and connect communities like never before.”
Kabarole thanked customers for their patience and loyalty, reassuring them that every effort is being made to ensure a smooth upgrade process.
“We’re confident our customers will notice the difference. Faster connections, clearer calls, and more secure transactions—that’s the promise of this upgrade,” he added.
MTN Uganda, which now serves over 22 million subscribers, has also issued reminders for customers to remain vigilant against fraud. The company stressed that all official calls originate from 0312120000.
For service issues during the upgrade period, customers can reach MTN Uganda’s Customer Experience team via the toll-free line 100 or on X (@mtnug).

With this bold network investment, MTN Uganda continues to assert its commitment to making digital access fast, reliable, and inclusive—one connection at a time.
