MTN Uganda has donated sewing machines to empower women in lganga with tools and skills needed for self-sufficiency.

In a move to uplift communities and drive economic empowerment, MTN Uganda has donated sewing machines to women in Iganga.

This initiative, part of the MTN Changemakers Initiative, aims to equip women with the tools and skills needed to achieve self-sufficiency and improve their livelihoods.

A Step Toward Economic Independence

Allan Njagala, Head of Marketing for the Eastern Region at MTN, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth.

“Many youth, especially in the informal sector, face significant challenges. But with the right support—skills training, access to digital tools, and financial inclusion—we can change this reality,” he said.

The donation is part of MTN Uganda’s broader commitment to community development. In 2023, as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, the company launched the MTN Changemakers Initiative, pledging Shs 500 million to 25 high-impact projects across the country.

These projects focus on key areas like education, health, economic empowerment, and environmental conservation.

Transforming Lives Through Skills Training

The sewing machines will enable women to learn valuable skills such as sewing, embroidery, and the production of essential items like reusable sanitary pads, clothing, and home accessories.

“It’s not just about learning a craft—it’s about giving people the ability to create sustainable businesses, increase their incomes, and even employ others in their communities,” Njagala explained.

Jane Namara, Director of Hands of Hope, one of the beneficiary organizations, expressed her gratitude for the support.

“This donation will significantly boost our productivity and empower the youth in our community,” she said.

Embracing the Digital Era

SSP Patrick Byarunga, the District Police Commander (DPC) for the area, urged the beneficiaries to seize the opportunity.

“To the young women benefiting from this project, this is your moment. Use these resources well, support each other, and embrace the digital tools that will help you grow,” he advised.
