Mbarara Muslims Receive Ultrasound Scan to Improve Maternal Health

MP Ritah Atukwasa hands over an ultrasound scan to Mbarara Muslim Health Centre during Eid celebrations.

Mbarara Muslim Health Centre has received an ultrasound scan to enhance maternal healthcare, thanks to a donation from Mbarara City Woman MP Ritah Atukwasa Bwahika.

She officially handed over the machine during Eid prayers at Global High School grounds, opposite the under-construction Abu Bakr Mosque.

Leading the prayers, Mbarara Deputy Kadhi and Abu Bakr Mosque chairman Sheikh Umar Ssebalamu praised the donation, calling it a major boost for the community.

“The ultrasound scan is up to standard and will improve maternal health among our people. We appreciate our MP for this contribution,” Sheikh Ssebalamu said. He also acknowledged MP Mwine Mpaka’s role in securing a radio frequency for the community.

A Lifesaving Contribution for All

Abu Bakr Mosque Imam Abdul Fattah emphasized that the health facility serves people of all faiths.

“Our health center is open to everyone, and this donation will benefit all,” he said.

Speaking at the event, MP Atukwasa said she was motivated by the urgent need to improve antenatal care in Mbarara.

“This ultrasound scan will assist mothers in monitoring their health and that of their unborn children. It is a portable machine, purchased at Shs 10 million, with a one-year warranty and regular servicing,” she explained.

Commitment to Community Development

Beyond healthcare, Atukwasa reaffirmed her commitment to supporting faith-based initiatives. She pledged to back the upcoming Kadhi Run in April and had already purchased kits worth Shs 1 million.

She also expressed interest in aiding the establishment of an Islamic radio station to strengthen community outreach.

Meanwhile, Mbarara’s Muslim leadership remains focused on education, faith, and financial empowerment. The ongoing construction of Abu Bakr Mosque requires an estimated Shs 2 billion for completion.
