KCB Uganda Commits Shs80M to 2025 Pearl Rally in Mbarara

KCB Bank officials announce Shs80M sponsorship for 2025 Pearl Rally

KCB Bank Uganda has stepped up as a major sponsor of the 2025 Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally, committing Shs80 million to fuel one of the continent’s most anticipated motorsport events.

Announced at a media briefing, the sponsorship signals more than just financial backing. According to Sheila Awori, KCB’s Acting Head of Marketing, this investment reflects the bank’s deeper alignment with both sport and the communities it serves.

“We’re proud to support such a prestigious event,” said Awori. “This partnership is not just about money. It’s about being part of a vibrant motorsport culture that energizes people and places across Uganda.”

Mbarara Makes History

This year’s rally marks a major milestone—it will be the first time the African Rally Championship (ARC) round is held outside central Uganda. Mbarara, famously known as the Land of Milk, now becomes the adrenaline capital of East African rallying.

James Akena, President of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU), welcomed KCB’s sponsorship. He praised the bank’s commitment and promised sponsors visibility and transparency throughout the event.

“Mbarara has a lot to offer,” Akena noted. “From the cultural experience to the fast cars, there’s something for everyone. And above all, safety remains our top priority.”

Why This Rally Matters

The 2025 edition of the Pearl of Africa Rally doubles as the second round of the African Rally Championship and the third round of the National Rally Championship.

With its roots in the 1997 Great Lakes Rally, this event has grown into one of the ARC’s most scenic and competitive stages. Its name, Pearl of Africa, was inspired by Winston Churchill’s famous description of Uganda.

Global Crews, Local Legends

The rally has already drawn interest from top-tier crews across Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. A maximum of 45 entries will be accepted, with local drivers also competing for points in the NRC, ARC Junior Drivers, 2WD, Clubman, and divisional categories.

According to Kisitu Mayanja, the Clerk of Course, moving the rally to Mbarara was a long-held dream.

“We wanted our rally to truly reflect Uganda’s identity. Mbarara offers culture, wildlife, and a unique racing terrain.”

The Five Rally Stages

Each of the rally’s five stages pays tribute to the region’s people, culture, and motorsport icons:

  • Charles Muhangi Stage (18.11km): Honours the 1999 ARC winner, Uganda’s rally legend.
  • Kaguta Stage (23.28km): Named for the sons of Kaguta, noted supporters of motorsport.
  • Ankole Cow Stage (19.28km): A nod to the iconic Ankole cattle and Mbarara’s dairy heritage.
  • Moses Lumala Stage (20.29km): Celebrates national rally champion Moses Lumala.
  • Rukaari Stage (6.5km): Hosted on land donated by MP Robert Rukaari, this stage features a double circuit and the Shell V-Power finale.

All stages were carefully designed with fans in mind but prioritize safety. FMU urges attendees to follow instructions from marshals, police, and security teams.

More Than a Race

This rally is more than dust and speed—it’s a celebration of community, culture, and commitment.

With KCB Bank Uganda backing the event, the 2025 Pearl of Africa Rally promises to be a thrilling, safe, and memorable experience for fans and drivers alike.
