In a shocking case of domestic violence, police in Rwenzori East have arrested Hassan Ngobi Kadogo for allegedly chopping off both arms of his wife, Ester Mbambu.
The brutal attack, which occurred on Thursday night in Nyakasonjo Lower, Bulembia Division, Kasese Municipality, has left the community in disbelief.
Mbambu, a vendor at Sauliyako Market, was found bleeding profusely near her home and rushed to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital.
She suffered severe injuries, including deep wounds on her head and body, and remains in critical condition.
What Led to the Attack?
The incident reportedly stemmed from accusations of infidelity. Kadogo, consumed by rage, allegedly turned violent, leaving his wife with life-threatening injuries.
Miss Justin Mulhuba, Mbambu’s caretaker, described the horrific scene: “My sister was found in a pool of blood, helpless. Doctors are trying everything, but her condition is worrying.”
Police Condemn the Brutality
SP Luka Mbusa, the Rwenzori East Police Community Liaison Officer, condemned the attack and urged the public to seek help in resolving domestic disputes.
“We strongly discourage such acts of brutality. People should seek help from authorities when facing domestic disputes instead of resorting to violence,” SP Mbusa said.
A Pattern of Domestic Violence
This attack comes just days after another domestic violence case in the region.
On March 17, retired officer Sipiriano Kyakwaire, 65, was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife, Night Masika, 50, to death at their home in Kakone I Village, Nyakiyumbu Sub-County.
Authorities have expressed concern over the rising cases of domestic violence and are urging the public to prioritize dialogue and report conflicts early to prevent further tragedies.
Kadogo is currently in police custody, awaiting charges. Meanwhile, Mbambu’s family and the community are praying for her recovery as doctors work tirelessly to save her life.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence and the urgent need for intervention and support systems to protect vulnerable individuals.
