Kamuli, Uganda – A 10-year-old Primary Two pupil is fighting for recovery at Namwendwa Health Centre IV after a horrifying ordeal at the hands of a 16-year-old boy in Kidiki Village, Luuka District.
Police have arrested the teen, who allegedly lured the girl, bundled her in a sack, and brutally defiled her.
A Trap Set in Deception
The victim, still trembling with pain, recounted how her attacker deceived her. “He told me to follow him to pick my sister’s skirt,” she said.
Once inside his home, the boy turned violent—slapping her, tying her limbs with rope, gagging her mouth with a sponge, and shoving her into a sack.
To avoid suspicion, he reportedly told a waiting boda boda rider he was transporting sugarcane seeds. But shortly after departure, he stopped, pulled the girl out, and subjected her to a vicious assault.
“He untied the ropes, lay on me, and shattered my private parts,” she whispered. Left bleeding and unconscious, she was rescued by passersby who rushed her to the health center.
School Negligence & Community Outrage
The girl’s mother, a struggling widow, revealed her daughter had been sent home from school—a government-funded Universal Primary Education (UPE) institution—to collect unpaid fees. While fetching water at a borehole around 6 p.m., she encountered her attacker.
Kamuli Resident District Commissioner Rose Birungi condemned the school’s actions, reminding administrators that President Museveni has repeatedly banned sending children home over fees.
“Why endanger a child for unpaid dues?” she demanded.
Cissy Nambi, Assistant In-Charge at Namwendwa Health Centre IV, confirmed the girl suffered severe internal injuries.
“Healing will take time. She needs medical care, counseling, and relocation for recovery,” Nambi stressed, warning that without intervention, the trauma could leave lifelong scars.
The victim is receiving post-exposure prophylaxis to prevent HIV.
A Repeat Offender?
Michael Kasadha, Busoga North Police Spokesperson, disclosed the suspect is a “habitual offender”—previously accused of defiling his niece.
“This may be his third such crime,” Kasadha said, urging parents to monitor children closely. The teen faces aggravated defilement charges, though prosecutors may add more counts.
In 2022, a similar juvenile crime shocked Kamuli when a minor kidnapped and murdered a 7-year-old over ransom. Now, this case has reignited calls for stricter child protection laws and community vigilance.
