This isn’t just another sporting event; it’s a celebration of East African unity, culture, and athleticism! Think fierce competition, vibrant cultural exchange, and a whole lot of Ugandan hospitality.

This prestigious event will draw participants from Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, and other East African nations, showcasing the region’s diverse talent and strengthening bonds across borders.

And let me tell you, Kampala is pulling out all the stops to make this a memorable experience.

Nakivubo: Heart of the Action

The iconic Hamz Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, along with the Phillip Omondi Stadium, will be the battlegrounds for these thrilling games.

A recent tour by Kampala’s top officials, including Minister Minsa Kabanda and KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki, confirmed the city’s readiness.

“We must show other teams that we are the best,” declared Minister Kabanda, highlighting Kampala’s competitive spirit. Businessman Hamis Kiggundu, the driving force behind Nakivubo’s revitalization, expressed his pride in hosting the games, assuring everyone that the stadium is 85% ready and raring to go!

Forging Regional Connections

These games are about more than just winning; they’re about building bridges. “This is in the spirit of East African interactions,” emphasized Minister Kabuye Kyofatogabye.

KCCA Executive Director Buzeki echoed this sentiment, highlighting the vital role of sports in youth development.

Charles Magnoti, KCCA’s Director of Education and Social Services and Chairman of EALASCA, explained that the games will feature a diverse range of sports, from football and netball to indoor games like chess and scrabble.

He emphasized the importance of these gatherings in fostering deeper ties within the East African Community, building on the success of last year’s games in Kisumu, Kenya.

These aren’t just games; they’re opportunities for cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and the forging of lasting cross-border connections. Pretty powerful stuff, right?

Kampala’s Time to Shine

This marks the third time Kampala has had the honor of hosting the EALASCA Games, solidifying its reputation as a key player in regional cooperation and cultural exchange.

The city is determined to make the 2025 edition a resounding success, showcasing its vibrant spirit and cementing its position as a welcoming host for regional events.

So, mark your calendars! From February 23rd to 28th, Kampala will be the epicenter of East African sports and culture. Don’t miss out on the action!
