A 38-year-old man in Kakumiro District is recovering after a failed suicide attempt triggered by claims of his wife’s infidelity.

The distressing incident took place in the early hours of the morning at Kaisanga Cell, Kakindo Town Council. Zabrone Ndagize was discovered hanging in his rented room, clinging to life after attempting to take his own using a belt.

According to reports, Ndagize was shattered upon learning that his wife, Mama Devina, had allegedly been involved in an affair. The alleged lover, identified as Kagurusi from Nakateete village in Kijangi Sub County, reportedly paid Mama Devina 20,000 Ugandan shillings for their illicit meeting.

Before resorting to suicide, Ndagize had sought intervention from the local council (LC1) chairman. The community leader responded by imposing a 50,000 shilling fine on Kagurusi, but this did little to ease Ndagize’s anguish.

Despite the fine, the emotional weight proved overwhelming, leading him to attempt to end his life. Fortunately, he was found just in time and rescued. He is now receiving care as efforts continue to stabilize his condition.

The incident has sparked concern within the community, with local leaders emphasizing the need for emotional support and conflict resolution.

They are urging residents facing personal or marital struggles to seek help from trusted family members, community elders, or counseling services.
