Mityana, Uganda – Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has rallied his subjects to prioritize their health, urging them to seek medical attention early and regularly. His message was delivered during the grand opening of Muteesa II Memorial Hospital in Busimbi, Mityana District—an event held in celebration of the Kabaka’s 70th birthday.
Speaking through Nalinya Sarah Kagere, Kabaka Mutebi emphasized the link between public health and development in Buganda.
“The well-being of our people is a cornerstone of development. We are committed to ensuring that health services in our Kingdom meet the highest standards,” said the Kabaka.
A Milestone for Healthcare in Buganda
The newly established hospital is expected to significantly improve healthcare access in Ssingo County and surrounding areas. For years, residents have relied on distant or under-resourced facilities. Muteesa II Memorial Hospital now promises modern care closer to home.
The launch ceremony drew a high-level delegation, including Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Deputy Katikkiro Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, Buganda’s Minister for Health Cotilda Nakate, and Dr. Richard Kabanda from the Ministry of Health.
Leaders Call for Preventive Action
Dr. Kabanda used the platform to urge parents to embrace childhood immunization, warning against the return of preventable diseases due to vaccine hesitancy.
“We’ve seen preventable diseases resurge due to low uptake of vaccines. Parents must embrace modern medicine to safeguard the next generation,” he said.
Cotilda Nakate echoed that call, stressing that access to healthcare is only half the battle.
“Good health begins with informed choices. This hospital is here, but people must use it proactively,” she noted.
Katikkiro Mayiga: Hospital a Symbol of Unity
Katikkiro Mayiga praised the Kabaka for placing health at the heart of Buganda’s development strategy.
“This facility represents more than just medical services—it’s a symbol of the Kabaka’s love for his people and a vision of shared responsibility,” he said.
Busimbi Sub-county Chief David Ssendikandiwa described the hospital as a “game-changer,” saying it reflected a modern Buganda where traditional authority meets real-world development needs.
A Gift of Health and Hope
Beyond the festivities, the hospital launch marks a defining moment in Buganda’s journey toward equitable healthcare. It’s more than just bricks and beds—it’s a royal statement that health is no longer a luxury, but a right.
As the Kingdom celebrates Kabaka Mutebi’s 70 years, the Muteesa II Memorial Hospital stands as a legacy gift: one that speaks not just to his reign, but to the future well-being of his people.
