Despite a downpour on Sunday morning, Lubiri Palace in Mengo pulsed with energy as thousands of runners gathered for the 12th Kabaka Birthday Run—a powerful display of unity in Uganda’s fight against HIV/AIDS.

I&M Bank, the event’s official banking partner, led by example, fielding a dedicated team of runners. Their participation underscored the bank’s commitment to health, community empowerment, and cultural heritage—a mission woven into its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

A Royal Call to Action

The run was flagged off by Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, flanked by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and Buganda Kingdom officials.

In a speech delivered by the Katikkiro, the Kabaka emphasized that HIV/AIDS remains a critical national challenge, urging vigilance and collective action to curb its spread.

This year’s theme, “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030,” spotlighted the crucial role men play in health advocacy. The event also marked the Kabaka’s 70th birthday, set for April 13, 2025.

Corporate Solidarity in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

Robin Bairstow, CEO of I&M Bank, praised the run’s impact:

“This isn’t just a race—it’s a movement. Together, we’re stronger in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Let’s keep pushing for a healthier Uganda.”

Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing at I&M Bank, reinforced the bank’s dedication through its four CSR pillars:

  • Enabling giving
  • Economic empowerment
  • Education & skills development
  • Environmental conservation

“The Kabaka Run aligns with our vision—a healthier, stronger Uganda. Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030 is a goal we fully support,” she said.

A Nationwide Celebration

While Lubiri Palace served as the main venue, the event also unfolded at county headquarters nationwide and among Ugandan diaspora communities. Kampala’s scenic route featured landmarks like:

Post-run, live performances kept spirits high, blending fitness with festivity.

Since its 2014 launch, the Kabaka Birthday Run has prioritized community impact over competition, rallying Ugandans behind critical causes. This year, with I&M Bank’s steadfast support, the run proved once again that unity drives change.
