Huawei Uganda Empowers Over 6,000 Ugandans with Digital Skills

Huawei Uganda Celebrates Digital Skilling Milestone: Over 6,000 Ugandans Empowered

In a significant step toward bridging the digital divide, Huawei Technologies Uganda has successfully concluded its Digital Skills Training Program through the innovative DigiTruck initiative.

Launched in partnership with the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, the program has equipped over 6,000 Ugandans with essential digital skills, empowering them to thrive in the digital economy.

A Milestone Achievement

At a recent graduation ceremony, 851 participants received certificates, marking a key milestone in the initiative.

The graduates, comprising 493 males and 358 females, were primarily market vendors from various communities in Kampala.

What is the DigiTruck?

The DigiTruck is a mobile, solar-powered classroom container equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

Designed to reach underserved communities, it delivers high-quality digital skills training to youth, women groups, and small business owners.

Since its launch on March 8, 2023, the DigiTruck has trained over 6,000 Ugandans, focusing on digitalizing the informal sector (Jua-Kali enterprises).

Government Support and Vision

Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, highlighted the program’s alignment with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap.

“This initiative represents the practical implementation of our digital vision. When market vendors use technology to increase their incomes, we’re witnessing a transformation that matters to ordinary Ugandans,” she said.

Expanding the Program

The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance plans to extend the Digital Skilling Program to other regions, targeting an additional 3,000 Ugandans by the end of the year.

Huawei’s Commitment

Huawei Technologies Uganda remains dedicated to supporting Uganda’s digital literacy drive.

The DigiTruck initiative aligns with the Digital Uganda Vision 2040, aiming to bridge the digital divide, create employment opportunities, and enhance the country’s global competitiveness.
