Mubende District’s healthcare sector has received a major boost with the commissioning of Gayaza Health Centre III, a facility aimed at improving access to medical services, especially maternal and emergency care.

However, the Shs1.4 billion expenditure on the project has sparked concerns over fund utilization.

The commissioning ceremony, held yesterday, was attended by Kasambya County MP David Kabanda, Mubende Woman MP Grania Nakazibwe, District Chairman Micheal Muhereza Ntambi, and the Resident District Commissioner.

Their presence reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in rural areas.

Kabanda praised the project, calling it a milestone for the community.

“This health centre is a remarkable achievement, bringing essential medical services closer to our people. The government’s investment in healthcare infrastructure is commendable, and we anticipate improved health outcomes in our district,” he stated.

Muhereza echoed similar sentiments.

“This facility stands as proof of our commitment to improving healthcare. We are confident it will positively impact our people,” he noted.

Nakazibwe emphasized the need for continuous investment.

“We hope the facility provides quality services to justify the significant investment made,” she added.

Despite the celebrations, some residents raised concerns about the cost.

“We appreciate the government’s efforts, but we need assurance that taxpayers’ money is being spent wisely. A facility costing over Shs1.4 billion must deliver high-quality services,” said one resident who preferred anonymity.

Clarification later emerged that the Shs1.4 billion covered multiple projects, not just the health centre. Of this, Shs614 million was allocated to the general and maternity wards, Shs342 million to a science laboratory at Lubimbiri Secondary School, and Shs500 million to Kasambya Skilling Centre.

Deputy RDC Abubaker Birungi praised the leaders for securing these projects and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare and education.

“These projects are just the beginning. We will continue investing in initiatives that uplift our people’s well-being,” he said.

With Gayaza Health Centre III now operational, the focus shifts to whether it will meet community expectations and deliver the high-quality healthcare services envisioned.
