Ugandan dancehall star Fik Gaza has once again landed in legal trouble—this time, over fresh allegations of aggravated robbery in Wakiso District.

Just days after his arrest and detention at Katwe Police Station on similar charges, new developments are emerging that could deepen the singer’s legal woes.

From aggravated to simple robbery

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Fik Gaza—real name Jjingo Shafik—was initially charged with aggravated robbery in Katwe. However, following guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), those charges were later downgraded to simple robbery.

“He was supposed to appear in court on Friday, but the DPP advised us to amend the charges. We’ve since done that, and he will now face court for simple robbery,” Onyango stated during a press briefing.

A new twist from Wakiso

As the Katwe case took a softer legal turn, a new storm brewed in Wakiso. Police authorities from the district have now submitted a formal request to continue detaining the artist, citing a separate case of aggravated robbery committed in the Wakiso area.

Onyango confirmed that Wakiso Police intend to record a statement from the musician before presenting him to court.

“There is another file in which he is accused of aggravated robbery in Wakiso. They want to interrogate him and decide the next course of action,” Onyango added.

The statement suggests that Fik Gaza could face court appearances on multiple charges as early as today or tomorrow.

Legal spotlight intensifies on artist

The singer’s legal battles have now expanded beyond a single incident, painting a troubling picture for one of Uganda’s most recognizable music talents.

While details of the Wakiso robbery case remain under wraps, the classification of the charge as aggravated implies a violent or armed nature, often attracting harsher penalties under Ugandan law.

So far, no official comment has been made by Fik Gaza’s legal team, and attempts to reach his representatives have been unsuccessful.

What lies ahead?

For now, the artist remains in custody at Katwe Police Station. His fate hinges on the outcome of police investigations and decisions from both the DPP and Wakiso law enforcement.

As fans and critics alike await further details, this saga underscores a growing trend of legal troubles entangling public figures in Uganda’s entertainment scene.

Whether Fik Gaza will beat the charges or face the full force of the law remains to be seen—but one thing is certain: his road ahead is anything but smooth.
