KAMPALA— Erias Nalukoola is officially the new Member of Parliament for Kawempe North after taking the oath before Speaker Anita Among.

The swearing-in, conducted while Parliament is in recess, ensures continued representation for the constituency.

“We couldn’t leave Kawempe North without a voice,” Speaker Among stated. “The law is clear, and we acted accordingly.”

Nalukoola secured victory with 17,980 votes and took his oath before key political figures, including Opposition Leader Joel Ssenyonyi. Holding a copy of Uganda’s Constitution, he pledged loyalty, concluding with, “So help me Allah.”

Why the Urgency?

Kawempe North faces critical challenges, including severe flooding. Nalukoola stressed the need for immediate intervention, saying, “Our people have waited too long for solutions.”

Speaker Among acknowledged the pressing concerns, while Ssenyonyi admitted the process was not ideal but necessary.

“Kawempe North has been a battleground,” he noted. “Today, we restore its representation.”
