Uganda’s tourism sector is catching global attention, and now, one of the world’s largest airlines is taking notice.
On Tuesday, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni welcomed a high-level delegation from Emirates Airlines to State House, Entebbe, to explore potential partnerships in boosting Uganda’s tourism industry.
Uganda’s Unique Selling Point? A Climate Like No Other
Leading the Emirates delegation was Mohamed Ahmed Taher, the airline’s Country Manager for Uganda, accompanied by Emirates Station Manager Maureen Kabure.
The group also included top officials from key global markets—Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, and the UK.
Their mission? To uncover Uganda’s untapped tourism potential and discuss strategic collaborations.
President Museveni wasted no time in highlighting Uganda’s biggest advantage—its extraordinary climate.
“There are about three countries in the world with a climate as unique as ours, thanks to altitude and location on the Equator. Uganda is one of them,” he stated.
With regions soaring over 1,000 meters above sea level and others reaching heights of 5,000 meters—some even crowned with permanent snow—Uganda’s landscape is as diverse as it is breathtaking.
Museveni drew comparisons to Ecuador in South America, another Equator-straddling nation, reinforcing Uganda’s position as an agricultural and ecological gem.
World-Class Coffee, Sweetest Pineapples—A Taste of Uganda
The conversation turned to Uganda’s globally renowned coffee. President Museveni attributed the superior quality to the country’s favorable equatorial climate, which nurtures organic crops like coffee and tropical fruits.
“I was in Washington, and they served me something they called a pineapple—it was sour! But Uganda? Our pineapples are naturally sweet. If you want good food and good climate, you’re in the right place,” he told the delegation.
Tourism Beyond Expectations
Uganda’s natural beauty extends far beyond its climate. President Museveni encouraged the Emirates officials to explore the country’s vast tourism offerings—from the iconic National Parks teeming with wildlife to hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
With the airline’s global reach, a partnership with Emirates could put Uganda on the map for high-value travelers seeking authentic African experiences.
Improved connectivity, strategic promotions, and direct flights could propel the country’s tourism sector to new heights.

The meeting brought together some of Uganda’s top tourism and foreign affairs leaders.
Present were:
- Hon. Bahinduka Mugarra Martin, Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities
