KAMPALA, Uganda — EcoBank Uganda has launched a strategic partnership with digital payment platform SurePay to revolutionize how schools across the country manage and receive fees.

The initiative, unveiled at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala, introduces a free, secure, and user-friendly system designed to ease transactions between schools, parents, and students.

The partnership aims to eliminate inefficiencies in school fee collection by offering real-time student record updates, automated reconciliation, and access to multiple payment channels. Through this collaboration, EcoBank has also pledged UGX 1 billion in financing for school infrastructure, asset expansion, and tailored support for women-owned schools.

Elizabeth Mwerinde Kassedde, EcoBank Uganda’s Head of Commercial Banking, described the collaboration as a commitment to customer-centric solutions and operational excellence:

“EcoBank and SurePay come together to drive innovation in service delivery. This milestone ensures simpler, more convenient digital payments and a more stable ecosystem for Uganda’s education sector.”

Grace Muriisa, Managing Director of EcoBank Uganda, highlighted the long-term societal gains of strengthening education through accessible finance and digital tools:

“Educated communities are more resilient, informed, and economically stable. Our partnership with SurePay is about investing in that future.”

As part of its 2025 rollout, EcoBank intends to onboard 300 new schools into its banking network, leveraging SurePay’s proven expertise in digitizing school operations.

Moses Okiror, CEO of SurePay, echoed the platform’s mission of transforming Uganda’s education system:

“We’re proud to work with EcoBank to expand digital access. SurePay simplifies school payments by linking directly with EcoBank accounts and offering multiple payment options—from mobile apps to in-person agents.”

The system supports payments via:

  • EcoBank Mobile App
  • Quick Teller via Interswitch
  • Over-the-counter services
  • ABC Agents nationwide

Teachers and administrators at the launch event expressed optimism about the system’s potential to boost efficiency, transparency, and trust between schools and families.

The collaboration underscores EcoBank’s ongoing commitment to financial inclusion, digital innovation, and community impact—making it easier for schools to thrive and for parents to manage fees without hassle.
