Court of Appeal Hears Wamala Troy’s Plea in Mowzey Radio Murder Case

The Court of Appeal has begun hearing the appeal of Wamala Troy, who was convicted for his role in the death of Ugandan music icon Mowzey Radio.

Radio died following a violent altercation at De Bar in Entebbe on January 22nd, 2018. Wamala Troy was arrested as the prime suspect and, in 2019, received a 13-year prison sentence for his involvement in the incident.

Delays and Frustrations

Despite his conviction, Wamala appealed the ruling, seeking a review of his sentence. However, the process has faced multiple delays, with his legal team frequently citing unavailability and unreadiness, causing repeated postponements.

Mowzey Radio’s brother, who attended the court proceedings, voiced his frustration over the drawn-out case. Speaking to Sanyuka TV, he accused Wamala of deliberately stalling the hearings with excuses.

Court’s Next Steps

The court has now ruled that the final decision will be delivered on notice, meaning a ruling will be given at a later date. This decision leaves Radio’s family anxiously awaiting the outcome.

Family Demands Justice

Radio’s family remains dissatisfied with the initial 13-year sentence, arguing that it does not reflect the magnitude of their loss.

“Radio was the breadwinner and caretaker for our mother. He had a family, children, and many responsibilities. The sentence was too lenient, especially since his time on remand was deducted. But we had no choice but to accept it,” a family member lamented.

With the appeal now under review, the public awaits the court’s final verdict on whether Wamala Troy’s sentence will be upheld, reduced, or altered.
